William Picard Jacocks Photographic Collection, circa 1950s

William Picard Jacocks, native of Bertie County, N.C., was a physician. He was a graduate of the University of North Carolina (BA), the University of Pennsylvania (MD), and Johns Hopkins University (Doctor of Public Health). After 1914, Jacocks was associated with the Rockefeller Foundation and spent much of his career in Asia, including India and Ceylon (now Sri Lanka), working on eradicating hookworm infections and other health issues. He retired in 1942 and moved back to Chapel Hill, N.C., where he was active in alumni affairs and family genealogy research. The collection consists of images of historic homes in Bertie, Brunswick, Dare, Hyde, Orange, and Perquimans counties in North Carolina. Some of the Orange County images were taken in Chapel Hill at the University of North Carolina. Included are images of the Jacocks family home in Perquimans County and images of locations relating to various historical associations and other groups around the state.
